DRIVEABILITY INCIDENTS CAUSED BY THROTTLE CHAMBER DEPOSITS

APPLIED VEHICLE (S):

1993-1997 J30,
1990-1996 Q45
1991-1996 G201
and some Nissan Models

SERVICE INFORMATION
Some vehicles may exhibit the following driveability incidents:
? Idle speed fluctuation
? Incorrect idle speed
? Accelerator pedal difficult to push
? Difficulty accelerating smoothly from a stop (throttle/vehicle "jumpy")

These symptoms may be the result of throttle chamber deposits. Use the following procedure to check for, clean, and prevent deposits from recurring in the future.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Check for throttle chamber deposits:

Remove the air inlet ducts from the throttle chambers. Open the throttle valve and check for deposits with a light. If deposits are found, remove them with genuine Nissan spray carburetor cleaner (P/N 999MP-A3000) or any aftermarket throttle body cleaner.

2. Set the base idle speed:

Using CONSULT (IACV - AAC/V ADJ) in "Work Support" mode (or by disconnecting the AAC valve), check the base idle, and adjust as necessary.

J30     700RPM
Q45    650RPM
G20    750RPM

3. Check the engine oil level and correct as necessary.

It is important that the engine oil is not overfilled (above the "H" mark). Maintaining the proper engine oil
level (not overfilled) will help prevent recurrence of these incidents.

If the vehicle still exhibits the driveability incidents after following these steps, consult the Service Manual for further assistance.
